As the editor for our music video i needed to dedicate my free time into selecting, cutting, syncing, placing and colour grading all of our footage. In order to do so i had supervision from some editors however once i learnt the skills needed to use Premier Pro, it was up to me to ensure i brought our vision to life! I needed to make sure it was fluidly edited and i chose the best clips which fully encapsulated her divine feminine power, manipulation and sexiness as an artist.
Through each step of the process it was important that i kept my group up to date with my progress so that i could create some alterations that we all felt could be improved.
For example after my first session of editing and learning the software (with my main focus being how to merge shots together) i sent the first section to my group:
Then after sending back and forth many videos and messages and spending many hours completing the editing of the video between the four different sets, i finally finished editing. I felt this whole process was extremely informative and allowed me to gain skills i can take forward within the industry and possibly my future career.

- What did you do the day before, to get ready for your shoot day?
The day before our shoot it was important that we preprepared all of our sets. Once we had a discussion with the set and lighting designer to clarify what flats, flooring and set was already completed we realized that our main priority was to paint our second set (the chequered room set). We therefore had to measure out the 2×2 large flats. We then had to mark out using pencil and a large wooden stick the squares which needed to be painted (labbeling the black squares with a ‘B’. These squares then needed to be outlined using masking tape (outer squares first). Once they had been taped up we then painted those squares with thick black paint and allowed them to partially dry before removing the tapeto ensure a crisp edge. Once dried, then the middle squares were also taped and painted. Once all were completed we could then move onto the bedroom set (which was the first that we wished to film the next day). To do so, we needed to secure 3×3 large plain flats up in a V-shape. We then placed wooden floor boards next to one another to create a wooden floor. I also carried in the bed frame sections to be essembelled in the morning.

- How did you feel when you woke up on the morning of the shoot day?
On the morning of the shoot I felt slightly apprehensive about ensuring that we got most/all our sets done in the time constraints as well as being stressed about finishing setting up our bedroom set. However, I was extremely excited as I knew how successful our sets would end up looking.
- How well prepared were you when you arrived for the shoot, what did you have to do before you could start shooting?
I was pretty prepared for the shoot on the day as I brought in a large suitcase which had all of the extra props we needed or could need in the day. I woke up very early and arrived for when the studio opened in order to place posters on the white flats, carpets on the floor, set up the dressing table and help assemble the bed. This meant that when it hit 9o’clock we could put the finishing touches to our sets and start looking at shot sizes and plotting lighting for this set.
- Describe what the studio/location looked like when you started to shoot, how well do you feel you managed to create the look of your concept?
When the set was completely finished it looked rather plain, so we then had to address the lighting designer and ask for a wash of blues and reds to cover the set and then certain directed light to highlight her facial shape and make-up without washing her out.
- How did you divide the roles on your shoot day, what role(s) did you play?
We didn’t divide our roles pior to shoot day, instead, we settled into the roles naturally. With Adam taking camera operator, Ailsa moving between visual director and producer, Izzy taking the role of helping the actresses with costume makeup and social media etc and myself Directing. This meant that I would instruct the actress the on the movments, positions etc in each set.
- What do you think that you personally did particularly well?
On shoot day I feel like I kept both actresses in good spirits and fully aware of what they needed to do within each set. I also managed to communicate with my other group members well and dicuss set and lighting options with the professional designers to ensure the best quality shots.

- What problems did your group have on the shoot day, how did you solve them?
One large issue we had on the day was costume. It was brought to our attention that some of the costumes were not suitable enough to be published online as a school project. We then had to seek out an alternative top and a jacket/covering of some sort from someone in school that day. We were lucky to find multiple options and the issue was sorted rather quickly.
- Which part of the shoot do you think was most successful and why?
I feel that the most successful part of the shoot was the overall visual look of the chequered room after all of the pre-preperation the evening before. This was very rewarding as we saw all of our hard work pay off. It also led to a very attractive photoshoot for our Instagram posts and Digi Pack.

- Which part of the shoot do you wish had gone better and why?
I feel as if the bedroom shoot could have gone better as it looked a little bare and we underestimated how many posters we would need so we had to seek out more which took time away from our shooting time. We also did not get enough time to shoot the bath shot for which we had prepared a marble style flooring, bath tub, candles and rose petals. Therefore we lost money that we spent on props and missed out on some very cool shot sequences that we had planned out.

- What was the part of the shoot you enjoyed the most?
I think overall my favorite part of the day was seeing all of our visions come to life and enhancing each set (especially the chequered set) with lighting for optimum visual effect. I also felt that our actress was exceptional at portraying the “broken hearted and toxic ex” which we instructed her to be. She was brilliant at following direction which is overall what led to the overall success of our video.
I also enjoyed working with the industry professionals and listening to their advice on how to best frame each shot and the order of which would be most effective for the editing process. I feel I gained a large amount of knowledge which would be otherwise impossible to obtain from day to day classes. This practical intelligence is something that will be indespencible in my career and life as I will be able to use these trasferable skills in the field of music as well as media.
- What are you looking forward to seeing the most in the edit?
I am looking forward to editing my video most as it will alow me to full bring our vision to life! It means I will be taking resposiblity for ensuring continuity editing and fluidy throughout the video. I feel its extremely important that I ensure I match the overall style of the video through the speed of my editing. As the video is slow and sultry I therefor must adhere to this by using a slower paced editing style mimicking that of the video. I also need to learn how to use super impossitional shots and create the impression of people disappearing around different places in the room.
- How well do you feel that your production group worked as a team?
I feel I group worked really well as a team as we all fell into roles and helped eachother to ensure that they were done to the best quality. We also did not get into any dissagreements on shoot day, and instead worked together and provided all aspects of the shoot as one rather than individuals.
- Are their any lessons you learned today that could help you make your next shoot even more successful?
I think the biggest lesson I have learnt is that ‘simple is better’ and time management is key. The most effective sets were the ones that took the least time and created the best images when editing. I feel like for next shoot having a tighter time constraint to each set to ensure each one is completed quickly and effectively will lead to a better overall product.

Preparation for music video:
- Petals for bathroom shots
We had to unpack and separate all of the rose petals as they were in groups of 100 and there were 10000 petals! We got other people to help so that it would be completed quicker.

Photo Shoot 2- (on test shoot)
We shall be completing more photo shoots leading up to the music video, and during the shoot day within each of the different sets. These can then be edited and added to her instagram account. We must ensure that each of these keeps to the star image and aesthetic such as the images above which show the fact she is a singer, use the colour red as the main theme, and she has the signature make up (red lipstick and black eyeliner).
